Steve Greaves’ Forest School journey started in 2002 when he met Gordon Woodall. At the time Steve was leading a team of education professionals using the outdoors for adventure in a school for children who struggled in mainstream education and had all been statemented with S.E.N. All of these children had emotional and behavioural needs.
Steve attended his own Forest School Leader training with Gordon and it changed his life, both professionally and personally. After delivering full time Forest School programmes for two years, with children of a range of ages and abilities, Steve apprenticed to Gordon to become a trainer. He worked as a freelance trainer for FSTC (Forest School Training Company) for seven years and then joined the Archimedes FSE (Forest School Education) team between 2012 and 2019 where he was one of the core training team and mentored other trainee Forest School Tutors.
Steve is committed to changing the path of people’s lives and through his work has connected with, and inspired, thousands of educators from all over the world. As your Forest School trainer he aims to give you confidence, skills and share his joy of the outdoors and of the Forest School ethos.
For fun Steve loves to engage with nature on all levels. Open canoe journeys are his passion, the more remote the better, and he has a deep connection to the woods and the land. If you ask him about dog sledding in Arctic Finland and his expeditions in the Amazon and Norwegian Arctic he’ll have you chatting for weeks! He is, however, as happy walking his Labrador in the woods around his home and in the Peak District.
